Introductory Prayer

Father, you created me and put me on earth for a purpose. Jesus, you died for me and call me to complete your work. Holy Spirit, you help me to carry out the work for which I was created and called. In your presence and name—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—I begin my reflection. May all my thoughts and inspirations have their origin in you and be directed to your glory.

Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross presents a poignant opportunity to pause and ponder the incredible mystery of Jesus’ sacrifice for us. Jesus took on human flesh and embraced our physical nature in order to be the bridge between the invisible infinite Godhead and the finite reality of human personhood. Through his humanity, we have been united to God in a new, mysterious, and beautiful way. Christ’s Passion and death on the Cross manifests how far He is willing to go and how much He is willing to give for the love of each and every one of us: absolutely everything.
In this vein, it is thus extremely important to recognize the infinite preciousness of the life that Christ has won for us and that He constantly invites us to partake in. There is nothing that we could ever do to deserve such an immense gift. Even in spite of our faults, failings, and moments of weakness, we have a Creator who desires nothing more than our love and companionship. Again and again, He continues to give us everything. Prodigal children though we are, He has made us heirs of Heaven and labors unceasingly on our behalf. The Exaltation of the Holy Cross is the ultimate sign of love and mercy from an unspeakably loving, merciful, and passionate God who will stop at nothing to pursue us and bring us back into loving relationship.
