Introductory Prayer

Father, you created me and put me on earth for a purpose. Jesus, you died for me and call me to complete your work. Holy Spirit, you help me to carry out the work for which I was created and called. In your presence and name—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—I begin my reflection. May all my thoughts and inspirations have their origin in you and be directed to your glory.

Saturday of the Fourth Week in Ordinary Time

The disciples return from their mission and Jesus invites them to a deserted place to rest a while. But the people follow them everywhere they go. Upon seeing this, Jesus is moved with pity and begins to teach them many things.

Did the disciples join in? Did they listen and watch attentively to see how the Teacher does it? Maybe some did. Maybe others used that time for a good nap.

Compassion never rests, but we certainly need to. Teach us, good teacher, how to balance our duties and our fatigue, how to receive and give compassion, how to give others rest and how to rest in you.
