Memorial of Saint Paul Miki and Companions, Martyrs

When Herod hears about Jesus, he is convinced that it is John the Baptist, whom he beheaded. John had been raised from the dead, he claimed. What was behind this assertion? Was it anguish and fear of condemnation or hope for a second chance?

We know how precious a new opportunity to right our wrongs can be. We also know how easy it is to miss those chances. But each day is a new beginning, and goodness presents itself in ways new and familiar. Jesus always comes to us. And he comes to save, not to condemn. May we be ready to receive and collaborate with his plan of salvation.
