Saturday of the Seventh Week of Easter
“There are also many other things that Jesus did, but if these were to be described individually, I do not think the whole world would contain the books that would be written.”
Personally, I think this is one of the most interesting lines in Scripture because it’s just so fascinating and captivating and inspiring to think about the fact that there are so many amazing wonders that Jesus manifested to the disciples to build them up and prepare them to lay the foundations of the Church that we simply have no idea about.
A similar realization is that we have so many beautiful, wonderful surprises awaiting us in Heaven that we cannot even begin to imagine. To paraphrase Paul, “eye has not seen, ear has not heard, and the human heart has not conceived of the things that God has prepared for those who love Him,” (1 Cor. 2:9).
There is a very human temptation to want to know all and control all. Even as Christians, there might be a temptation to feel like we know everything or have mastered everything in the Christian life. The reality is that there are so many marvels waiting for us that we cannot even begin to imagine. It’s important for us to constantly cultivate a disposition of receptivity like little children who do seek to own or control, but who are capable of just receiving all in a spirit of contemplative wonder at the majesty of God.
