Saturday of the Thirty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time
Today Jesus warns against our hearts becoming drowsy from carousing, drunkenness, and anxieties. Indeed, sometimes the weight of life and the remedies we seek to soothe ourselves leave us with hearts that are not fully alive. He asks that we be vigilant and strong to withstand the coming of the Son of Man, Christ himself, who comes as a son, our son. "I am your God who for your sake have become your son," says the ancient Holy Saturday homily.
Reflecting on the meaning of fatherhood, a friend once said, “The day my son came into the world, my heart changed forever. I became softer, stronger, and fuller.” As we enter into Advent, may our hearts and our eyes be filled with such a beautiful expectation.
