Thursday of the Sixth Week of Easter
Today Jesus speaks of His impending death which will steal Him away from His friends, and His Resurrection which will bring Him back. We may also understand Him to be speaking of His Ascension into Heaven, for while we have been awaiting His return for centuries, to Him “…one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day,” (2 Peter 238): He will return sooner than we dare think. To soothe our yearning He makes Himself present through His Church and His Sacraments, that the One we strive to find and follow is right here in our midst, unable to be parted too long from those He loves.
“…for Our Lord does not come from Heaven every day to stay in a golden ciborium; He comes to find another heaven, the heaven of our soul in which He loves to dwell.”
