Good Friday of the Lord’s Passion

Let us immerse ourselves into the Christian mystery and allow it to amaze us, especially today, on Good Friday. This is the day that Christ, true God and true man, dies on a cross for the redemption of all of humanity. We repeat this so often that we tend to forget how radical a claim it is – and yet it’s the most radical, bizarre, profound thing to ever happen in human history.

Today, Christ unites heaven and earth. The infinite gap between God and man caused by our own sin is closed by Christ, the God-man, who makes amends through his sacrifice. As St. Paul says in today’s reading, we do not have a God “who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has similarly been tested in every way, yet without sin.” Our Lord has become like us in order to redeem us. Today, let’s pray for the grace of awe and gratitude for Christ’s incredible, mysterious love.
