Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Life is not always just a bowl of cherries for me. The responsorial psalm in today’s Mass tells me how I should act: “Forever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.” So, what gives? Singing goodness when I’m down? How?

Jesus gives the answer in the Gospel, the last instruction He gave His apostles before sending them out on mission. Forget yourself and be attentive to others, particularly “the little ones,” that is, those who need your attention. Give them help, encouragement.

Isn’t this what Jesus did during His life on earth? In His goodness doesn’t He show me the way I should follow? Doesn’t He give me the truth, the light to do so? How thankful I should be for the goodness of the Lord now and forever.

Resolve: I shall spend some time today asking the Lord to help me forget myself more so that I can better attend to those He has put in my way to give them attention and concern.
