Thursday of the Twenty-fifth Week in Ordinary Time
Jesus was a living question mark for his contemporaries. He had power over life and death, but so did Herod. Some said he was an ancient prophet come to life, a kind of alien. Reactions to who he is in our lives are no different today. It is easy to put him back in an extraordinary time when all sorts of miraculous events seem were taking place and gloss over that he is active in the common place here-and-now.
So, what’s the relevance? Well, how often at the end of the day do I feel things just haven’t gone right? That feeling can be a blessing. It forces me to see that I am someone with limited resources, like a child. Better, someone without the insight to see I must become like a child who puts complete confidence in his father’s love and protection.
God alone teaches me how dependent am on his resources. Prayer, if made honestly, deepens insight of who I am and before whom I make my requests. I know when a child wants a particular favor, he seeks the aid of his parent to attain it. This same principle pertains to the spiritual life.
Resolve: Today I shall pray to the Blessed Mother for me and for all those who seek a deeper relationship with Jesus; for the grace to be truly child-like, confident in his care and that he fortify trust in his “gracious will” for all that comes our way.
