Friday of the Twenty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time
In today’s short gospel, we learn that women who had been healed accompany Jesus and the Twelve and provide for them “out of their resources.” Among them is Mary Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out. In the Bible, the number seven indicates completion, perfection. In other words, Mary was completely, perfectly possessed.
The Lord offered her a new life, where she might live and love without being possessed and without possessing. Isn’t this the call for every Christian? Freely we have received, freely we are called to give.
