Introductory Prayer

Father, you created me and put me on earth for a purpose. Jesus, you died for me and call me to complete your work. Holy Spirit, you help me to carry out the work for which I was created and called. In your presence and name—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—I begin my reflection. May all my thoughts and inspirations have their origin in you and be directed to your glory.

Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows

She is our mother first. Today’s reading from the gospel of John shows Jesus on the cross telling Mary, “Woman, behold, your son." Only then does he say to the disciple whom he loves, "Behold, your mother." From early on, Mary must have known that her son’s unbridled love for humanity would make her the mother of us all. Yet this love put on full display on the Cross provokes sorrow. How often the two go hand in hand.

Our Lady of Love, our Lady of Sorrows come into our homes, come into our hearts as we navigate our way towards the Life which your Son, our brother wishes to give us.
