Introductory Prayer

Father, you created me and put me on earth for a purpose. Jesus, you died for me and call me to complete your work. Holy Spirit, you help me to carry out the work for which I was created and called. In your presence and name—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—I begin my reflection. May all my thoughts and inspirations have their origin in you and be directed to your glory.

Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

-> Today’s Mass Readings

Today we celebrate the birthday of her, who gave flesh, care, nourishment to the Divine Son of God. That alone is baffling. But what is also baffling, as the Gospel attests, is that she was the product of a line of saints, sinners and just ordinary dudes, another example that the extraordinary hides itself in the ordinary.

God chose this human child to give flesh and blood to his divine Son. She accepted the invitation. His Son, her son became the head of his church, made up human beings, members of his body. So, today we celebrate the birthday of Christ’s mother, and our mother.

Resolve: I will spend some extra time today placing spiritual candles on the birthday cake of our Lady and Mother. Each candle will have a special intention attached, so, don’t be surprised if each of you, readers of Magis, gets a request for a blessing.
