Introductory Prayer

Father, you created me and put me on earth for a purpose. Jesus, you died for me and call me to complete your work. Holy Spirit, you help me to carry out the work for which I was created and called. In your presence and name—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—I begin my reflection. May all my thoughts and inspirations have their origin in you and be directed to your glory.

Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children

Shortly before becoming king, David received a messenger whose clothes were in tatters and whose head was covered with dirt.  The messenger reported that King Saul had been slain, together with his son, Jonathan.  This message established that the path was open for David to ascend the throne, but what came to David’s lips was not a song of triumph over his rivals, but a song of lament which began thus:

Alas! the glory of Israel, Saul,

slain upon your heights;

how can the warriors have fallen!

David was a man with humanity.  He cared for human beings.  He understood that King Saul, who had persecuted him and even tried to kill him, was a human being, with successes and failures, with greatness and pettiness, with friends and enemies.  David tore his garments and wept.

Friends, let us be human beings today.  Let us mourn for all those who have been harmed by abortion in the U.S.A.  For the innocent lives snuffed out before birth.  For the parents that have been robbed of their children.  For the professionals blindly hacking away at the innocent. Let us mourn for a corrupt and immoral culture that tolerates and even encourages abortion.

May God send us brave leaders like David, people with humanity, who will defend the innocent and vulnerable!
