Saturday of the Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time
This whole week we have been reflecting on the relationship of the disciple and his master in carrying out the Gospel message to others. Here, on this last day, Jesus tells us what the essential attitude of the disciple should be.
He should be like his master. He should see that it is normal to be persecuted and rejected by his own and that there will be difficulties in witnessing by words and actions the apostolic message, particularly today in our woke society. So, he should accept them realistically with confidence and humor. To be an apostle is to allow oneself to be formed by the Master. What one has learned from him he should try to communicate to others.
So, we end where we began on Sunday. Fidelity. That’s the key. In the midst of all our problems, we must remain faithful to where God has placed us, what he has given us and what he asks to do. Because we are his followers, we are called to give witness to that before all we encounter. But we’re weak. We need help: “Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners. . .” Teach us to do what you told the waiters at Cana: “Do what he tells you”.
