Feast of Saint Thomas, Apostle
Today is the feast of St. Thomas the Apostle, and the first reading begins with a beautiful affirmation from St. Paul to the Ephesians: “You are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the holy ones and members of the household of God.” How comforting to remember that each one of us has a home, a place of rest and refreshment in God!
St. Thomas found his home, his place of rest and refreshment in the open wounds of Christ, which he was so insistent on seeing and touching. Such is his joy that he exclaims, “My Lord and my God!” Like Thomas, in the Risen Christ we have our Lord and our God, one who knows pain, suffering, and death, but who conquers all with his love.
May Christ’s love as manifested by the open wounds in his glorified body always be for us a place of rest and refreshment, and always be our home.
