Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
C.S. Lewis once said, “You don’t have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body.” Indeed this is true though our bodies can often be taken for granted unless something isn’t looking right or working right. But Jesus, who is God made flesh, came to show us that our bodies are always an expression of God’s love for the world.
In today’s gospel, the physicality of Christ is highlighted as the large crowds press upon him, as the woman with hemorrhages touches his clothes and is healed. Love is powerful. It heals and it brings life as it did to Jairus’ daughter.
Some questions that we can ponder in light of today’s readings: Do I believe that my body is an expression of God’s love for the world? Am I comfortable in my own skin? Do I believe that I, as an embodied being, can be a source of healing and life for others? What gets in the way of me truly believing and living this out?
As the courageous woman in today’s gospel, let us stand before Jesus and share with him the whole truth, asking that his love may flow into us and through us for the whole world.
