Wednesday of the Fourth Week of Easter
Jesus’ words are inspiring to many, and rightly so. As we hear Him speak, of liberating captives, of leading us all out of darkness, of giving salvation rather than condemnation, our hearts are hopefully touched. Jesus shows us the sort of world we want to live in, and the sort of people we want to be. We should want His words to be real.
If we are inspired by Jesus’ words, though, we should also act on them. Jesus reminds His disciples that someone who does not accept Jesus’ words are not condemned by Him, but rather “the worth that I spoke, it will condemn him” (Jn. 12:48). If we reject Jesus’ words, we reject the beautiful reality that His words present. If we claim His words are inspiring, but are never inspired to actually live them out, our apathy will condemn us. The words of Jesus are not pretty window-dressing; they are a program of life, and our path to salvation.
