Saturday of the Nineteenth Week in Ordinary Time
“Fathers have eaten green grapes,/ thus their children’s teeth are on edge.” Such a statement speaks for the solidarity of clans, groups, and generations. True. But this notion does not exclude the obligation for personal conversion either.
There is a lot of blame today put on Catholic school teachers, seminary instructors, religious superiors, bishops and unfaithful parents from the 60s to the 90s for the decline of religious commitment of families, parishes, schools, and religious orders today. Yep! Our teeth are on edge all right.
But as our 1st reading for today’s mass – in honor of the Blessed Virgin – reminds me, that is but part of the problem. Daily, personal conversion is what the Lord calls for. So, today I’ll consecrate on: “Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now. . . . Pray, Mary, for my personal conversion.”
