Introductory Prayer

Father, you created me and put me on earth for a purpose. Jesus, you died for me and call me to complete your work. Holy Spirit, you help me to carry out the work for which I was created and called. In your presence and name—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—I begin my reflection. May all my thoughts and inspirations have their origin in you and be directed to your glory.

First Friday: The Sacred Heart

The miracle Jesus preformed described in today’s Gospel was repeated on my behalf the day I was baptized. Because I was baptized my ears have been opened to hear the word of God.

That word has been speaking to me without interruptions since the day I emerged from the font and it continuously calls me to hear why “the Word of God was made flesh and dwelt among us.” It is the message of devotion to the Sacred Heart.

My tongue was also loosened at baptism to enable me to repeat what I hear. The Word of God invites me to repeat his message to all I meet. Baptism has made me a missionary, an apostle of God’s mercy.

Why do I not repeat Christ’s message of salvation? Because I fail to listen. Why? Too much noise; too  many other voices.

Resolved: I must have more quiet time to reflect, to pray to be a good listener; a good apostle.
