Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

“The harvest is abundant,” says the Lord.

So often this phrase is interpreted as the people we are called to help and turn over to Christ. But what if we took it to talk about the harvest within. After all, we are holy ground. And if we think about it, many have come upon this ground to till the soil, planting seeds of life, watering the dry patches, nurturing us with their love. The harvest is abundant, but will we live like an open field ready to provide fruit to all those we encounter?

Of course, there have probably been those who, far from cultivating, trampled and stripped. There are fields in which nothing grows, fields which have been closed off for a long time. Ah, but this land could bear some of the finest fruits for others, if only we open it up.

The master of the harvest intends to visit, will you be open to receiving him?
