Introductory Prayer

Father, you created me and put me on earth for a purpose. Jesus, you died for me and call me to complete your work. Holy Spirit, you help me to carry out the work for which I was created and called. In your presence and name—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—I begin my reflection. May all my thoughts and inspirations have their origin in you and be directed to your glory.

Thursday of the Twenty-sixth Week in Ordinary Time

Today’s gospel is the missioning of the seventy-two disciples. He sends them ahead to places he himself intended to visit. This is a beautiful detail that can often be overlooked.

We may know Jesus. We may pray to him every day. We may have been doing this for as long as we can remember. But there are instances of powerful encounter with him. If you’ve already lived this, you know that for as personal as this experience can be, it has been made possible by the witness, love, and support of other faithful ones, those who came ahead of Jesus. If you have not yet experienced this, continue to seek him, and he will come. Within you, the harvest will be abundant.
