Saturday of the Seventh Week of Easter
In the Gospel today, Peter asks the Lord about the future fate of his fellow apostle John. Perhaps to his surprise, the response from Jesus is simply, “Don’t worry about it . . . you don’t need to know.” In nearly every moment of daily life, there are temptations for us to be distracted, worried, anxious, or otherwise preoccupied with any and every other possible concern except for what we are actually doing in that moment. It actually can be the hardest thing to simply focus on where we are and what we are actually doing minute to minute.
But the living God dwells in the sacrament of the present moment. God lives in the eternally unfolding now. It is important to meditate on and learn from the past, and it is likewise prudent to plan for the future to a certain degree. But more than anything, we are called to be intentional about actively seeking the will of the Lord while living more and more into the sacrament of the present moment where the living God dwells.
