Tuesday of the Twenty-ninth Week in Ordinary Time
There is an interesting temptation in the human psyche to procrastinate, especially when it comes to really important or critical tasks. How often do we put off thinking about, planning for, and working on those things that have the most potential to most significantly affect our lives? If we are being rational and serious about trying to arrange our lives to achieve the greatest possible outcomes, shouldn’t we arrange our priorities so that we give the most time and energy to the most important things in our lives, rather than the least?
The most important aspect of our lives is our relationship with God. Like any other relationship with any other person, our relationship with God requires quality time. You can’t be in a real relationship with a person that you never spend time with. The Gospel today calls us to reflect on the reality that we do not know when our time on this Earth will come to an end. In that instant, the only thing that will matter is how we have used our knowledge, abilities, and time to cultivate relationship with God and with others.
