Introductory Prayer

Father, you created me and put me on earth for a purpose. Jesus, you died for me and call me to complete your work. Holy Spirit, you help me to carry out the work for which I was created and called. In your presence and name—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—I begin my reflection. May all my thoughts and inspirations have their origin in you and be directed to your glory.

Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of Mary

As we look for a model of how to use our memory like a Christian disciple, Mother Mary is the first and best example. What characterizes Mary again and again is that she does not let the deeds of God, the words of her Son, the mysteries of our faith disappear from her memory. She holds on to them. “His mother kept all these things in her heart.” (Luke 2:51)

Mary’s heart is immaculate. It is not stained by pride, by envy, by wrath, by grudges, by lust. Into this pure heart the Lord can pour His grace. Into this soul God can enter, since there is space and He is not crowded out by sin which shrinks the heart.

Today, let us ask our mother Mary to pray for us, that our hearts may be cleansed of the stains of sin, may be widened to welcome God’s love, and may ever cling to the precious revelation of God’s words and deeds, so that we may understand them more and more as time goes on.
