Introductory Prayer

Father, you created me and put me on earth for a purpose. Jesus, you died for me and call me to complete your work. Holy Spirit, you help me to carry out the work for which I was created and called. In your presence and name—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—I begin my reflection. May all my thoughts and inspirations have their origin in you and be directed to your glory.

Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Today, we celebrate the Assumption of Mary, when the Blessed Mother was taken up body and soul into heaven. Since Mary was untouched by original sin, she was also untouched by the death that results from original sin. And the love between her and Christ was so great that it brought her to him in heaven through the Assumption.

The Assumption is a great cause for celebration for the Church. We have a Mother who is very much alive in heaven, one who is constantly praying and interceding for us, one who has the ear of Christ himself. And she is not some disembodied spirit, but a human person, with a body like ours. In this way, her Assumption is a reminder of our future resurrection, when we too will live body and soul with Christ in heaven. Today, let’s pray for the grace to love Christ like the Blessed Mother does, with love so fervent that it carries us to Him in heaven.
