Introductory Prayer

Father, you created me and put me on earth for a purpose. Jesus, you died for me and call me to complete your work. Holy Spirit, you help me to carry out the work for which I was created and called. In your presence and name—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—I begin my reflection. May all my thoughts and inspirations have their origin in you and be directed to your glory.

Ash Wednesday

A day of fast and abstinence may not be the most opportune time to celebrate St Valentine’s day. But on the day that celebrates love, perhaps we should note how much God loves us and, as St Ignatius advises, be attentive to those things that take us from that love. The season of Lent provides us with the chance to refocus our lives and to look at all those things that take us from the person who loves us most.
