Saturday of the Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Today, Jesus tells his disciples that if he suffers, we too will suffer, but we can find comfort in knowing that all truth will be revealed. This may not seem like a very consoling statement. There is suffering we’d like to avoid. There are truths we’d like to be known immediately, others which we’d like to keep hidden forever.

Jesus reassures us of the Father’s provident care, telling us that nothing escapes his knowledge. Our joys, our struggles, our mistakes past and present, even the hairs on our head are all known by God. There is no truth that will not be revealed, and while we wait in hope to bask in the fullness of Truth, we can already anticipate its makeup: love and mercy.

In our hearts and in our actions, may this truth become our own.
