Monday of the Sixth Week of Easter
Jesus knows that we will suffer and struggle in this world. Yes, because we sin and suffer the consequences of our choices. Yes, because we will suffer the consequences of the choices of others. But because the world is so broken by sin, so set in its crooked ways, just by following Jesus we will suffer, even if we are innocent. How many martyrs were killed simply for sharing the Gospel, for celebrating Mass, for showing kindness? But rather than allow the cruelty of the world to discourage us, Jesus tells us that it will be difficult, that He will send us an Advocate to plead our case before the Father always, to be a constant help. If we have the help of the Spirit, the friendship and guidance of Jesus, and the love of the Father, what have we to fear even if the whole world is against us?
