Optional Memorial of Our Lady of Lourdes
Today’s Gospel continues the account of Jesus disagreement with the Pharisees, stressing the need we have for following Him with what is called purity of heart.
Purity of heart is seeing Him in all things, living a life free from pharisaic double-mindedness, hypocrisy and impurity. It means being chaste, disciplined and free from posing piety. It means to enter with Him in the work of salvation and sanctity.
The more we reflect on obtaining purity of heart, so necessary for salvation, the more impossible it is to achieve it alone. But we have one who makes intercession “for us poor sinners, now and at the hour of our death”.
Today is her feast, under the title Our Lady of Lourdes. She is the perfect mother, watching after each one of her children, making sure their hearts remain pure, and she asks me to join with her in this miraculous enterprise.
Resolve: Today I shall ask Our Lady of Lourdes to obtain from her Son the grace to wash clean the hearts all her children, making them pure before their Redeemer, Savior and Sanctifier.
