Third Sunday of Lent
The season of Lent presents us with a beautiful opportunity for life-changing renewal. Consider the encounter between Jesus and the woman at the well. Imagine the experience of the woman that day. Her morning likely began like any other. She probably went through the motions of her morning routine just like any other day. Whatever her expectations for the day, she could never have possibly foreseen the life-changing encounter she was about to have. When she set out for the well, she could never have imagined that God himself was there waiting for her.
And so what began as just another day became one of the most significant days of this woman’s entire life. In a single moment, in the course of a single conversation, God met her face-to-face and completely altered the course of her life. God met her where she was, but he didn’t allow her to remain there. He wanted better, higher, and more fulfilling things for her. Through this single interaction, her life was irrevocably transformed.
Just as Christ waited beside the well for this woman, so too does he wait for each one of us today. God constantly waits for us, searching for those moments in our lives when we are actually open enough to hear his words and to allow him to change us. God is waiting for you today. When you meet him, how will you respond?
