Mass Readings for Today

God is always closer than we can imagine. The people of Nazareth can’t imagine that this man who they’ve known their whole lives will be the one who brings glad tidings to the poor, sight to the blind, and liberty to the oppressed. “Is this not the son of Joseph?” they ask. We know him. He can’t be anything special.

The people, the places, the dynamics that are most familiar to us may very well be the things through which God wishes to bring us glad tidings. Let us live with hearts that are willing to be surprised by the mystery of God who reveals himself in the most unexpected and ordinary.
