The reading from the first Book of Samuel recalls how Samuel was confused as to who was calling him. His confusion perhaps is our own when we consider the constant barrage of voices and media clamoring for attention. Ignatius identified discernment as the careful selection of which voice we are to follow and what that voice represents. When we look over our life projects, one project should demand our constant attention. No time is wasted in reviewing the choices we make concerning the “voices” or the ideas we are following and how we use our resources to support these ideas.
