Friday of the Fourth Week of Easter

Optional Memorial of Saint Joseph the Worker

“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be.” – John 14:3

The apostles sitting at the Last Supper hearing these words did not understand them. But they remembered them. And after the Resurrection of Christ, they returned to these words again and again to understand them in the light of the Resurrection. And so we do today. Christ has gone ahead of us through the passage from life to death. He has gone ahead of us in rising from the dead. He has gone ahead of us in ascending to the Father. And He promises that in this going, He is preparing a place for us. He promises that He will come again to take us to Himself. Our Good Shepherd loves us, has gone through the Passion and has entered into the Resurrection precisely so that we can have hope in the fullness of these words: “so that where I am you also may be.” The Resurrection is the fulfillment of all the promises made to our fathers in the history of salvation.

As we adore Christ Risen from the dead, let us ask Him for the grace to hope courageously in His promise to share in His Resurrection.
