Tribalism Making a Comeback? In-Group Bias in Evolutionary Psychology

Written by Dr. Dan Kuebler | January 4, 2022

In-group/out-group bias may be hardwired into our psychology because our species evolved in small, cooperative groups that competed with other groups of hominids.

As societies have become increasingly multicultural over the last few centuries, we’ve grown more tolerant, respectful, and even appreciative of people who we perceive as belonging to a different “tribe”.

More recently however, this progress may be reversing. We’re witnessing a rise in ethnic, political, religious, gender, and various other forms of tribalism.

Listen to Dr. Dan Kuebler as he discusses these trends and what it may mean for how we view and treat our fellow human beings.
